Can You Purchase New or Used Antique Tractors Online?

Of course you can, but if you are a beginner, then it's better to use the internet as a reference and not as a buying channel. Why? Because there is too much to learn about a
hundred years of tractor technology and there are too many "hands on" things you need to know about an antique tractor before you buy one. Buying an antique tractor is not unlike buying a used car. You will want to inspect the unit for damage and wear and tear. Unless the machine has already been reconditioned, it may look like nothing but a rusting hulk sitting out in the barn. Unless you've spent some time researching old tractors and getting a feel for their value, it will be easy for someone to "take" you.

When you buy an old machine you will also need to ask the current owner where you can buy parts for the tractor. They may or may not know. Fortunately, there are companies dedicated to the manufacturing of these hard to find items and in that regard, the Internet is your friend. Of course, antique tractor parts are more expensive than those used in modern day tractors, but at least they can be found or made. Ask the seller about where you can obtain them or for a recommendation for someo ne to do any work the machine may require.

Many times you will simply need someone like a mechanic who has a working knowledge of motors and a machinist who can take old, worn out parts and recreate them. Many tractor collects actually do these things themselves and part of the passion they have for the machines lies in the pride they derive from working on them and putting them back in working order again. Remember, however, that some early tractors, like the steam powered models, were unstable pieces of machinery even when they were new. Be sure you know what you're doing before you make the decision to do your own antique tractor repair work.

Owning antique farm tractors isn't exactly a common collector's hobby. It should be considered by people who appreciate the beauty of old machines and have the money to buy and maintain them. Used antique tractors need to be taken care of, as any machine. If you are still willing to invest time and money, then look for antique tractors for sale and good luck with your new acquisition.
